A Note from the Delivery Guy Made Me Install Security Cameras around My House – I’ll Forever Be Grateful to Him

A Note from the Delivery Guy Made Me Install Security Cameras around My House – I’ll Forever Be Grateful to Him

It started as just another online order.

I was expecting a standard package—nothing special. I wasn’t even home when it was delivered, just a routine drop-off like any of the dozens that happen in my neighborhood every day. But this delivery was different. Not because of what was in the box—but because of what was on it.

Taped to the top of the package was a handwritten note. It read:

“Hey, just wanted to let you know—on two different days this week, I saw someone walking slowly around your property around 2 PM. Both times, they didn’t come to the door. Thought you should be aware. Stay safe!”

At first, I brushed it off. Maybe it was a neighbor. Maybe someone lost a pet. The world is still mostly good, I told myself. But something about the delivery guy’s tone—and the fact that he cared enough to say something—got under my skin. This wasn’t a stranger being nosy. This was someone who saw something that didn’t sit right and decided to speak up.

That night, I ordered a basic home security camera system.

The Wake-Up Call I Didn’t Know I Needed

I didn’t grow up thinking much about home security. Like many people, I assumed things like break-ins happened to “other people” in “other neighborhoods.” But after that note, I started noticing things I hadn’t before—a gate that didn’t latch properly, a motion light that had stopped working, bushes that offered a little too much cover near the back fence.

Within a few days, I had installed cameras around my property. One at the front door, one facing the driveway, and one overlooking the backyard.

What the Cameras Revealed

Within a week, my unease was justified. The footage captured a man walking slowly by my house—pausing just a little too long near my garage—on two separate afternoons. He didn’t knock. He didn’t have a flyer or a delivery. Just walked the perimeter and left.

The footage was clear enough to share with local authorities, who later informed me that the same person had been seen near other homes in the area. While no arrests were made, the increased vigilance seemed to send a message. The man never returned.

Why I’ll Always Be Grateful to the Delivery Driver

That note changed the way I view my home, my neighborhood, and even strangers. It reminded me that community still matters—that sometimes it’s the people we barely know who make the biggest impact.

The delivery guy didn’t have to say anything. He could have dropped the box and gone about his day. But he didn’t. He noticed something that didn’t feel right and took a moment to warn me.

His simple act might have prevented something much worse. For that, I’ll always be grateful.

The Bigger Lesson

We live in a world where we’re often told to mind our own business. But sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is not look away. Whether it’s noticing a suspicious stranger, or simply lending a hand, the smallest actions can ripple into something life-changing.

Installing those cameras gave me peace of mind—but the real security came from knowing that someone out there was looking out for me. A stranger, yes—but one who acted like a neighbor.

And in today’s world, that’s something truly worth recognizing.
